Find and join a community

Find a community

1. Tap the Communities tab.
2. Look under more near you for public communities inside your radius, and tap see all for more. This section needs your location.
3. To search, tap Find communities (the search button at the top) and type what you are looking for, such as an activity or a neighbourhood.

Only public communities appear in search and in more near you. Unlisted communities never appear there; people reach them by invitation.

Join

Open the community. The button at the bottom tells you how it works:

• join: you are in straight away.
• ask to join: a moderator decides. You can add a short note saying why you want in, then tap send request. The button then reads request sent.
• accept invitation: someone inside invited you. Tap it to join.
• invite only: you need an invitation from someone inside.

If you have been invited, the invitation also appears on the Communities tab under you've been invited.

Once you are in

• The posts tab shows announcements from the community's moderators. There are no likes or replies.
• The events tab shows what the community has coming up. Joining a community does not RSVP you to its events.
• The members tab shows the member list, which only members can see.
• To leave yourself off the member list, open members and turn off Show me on this list. You stay in the community and the member count does not change.

Start your own

1. On the Communities tab, tap Start a community (the plus button at the top).
2. Give it a name, say what happens there, and say where.
3. Under who can find it, choose anyone can find it or unlisted.
4. Under who can join?, choose Anyone, They ask, you decide or Invite only.
5. Tap create.

You can change who can join later from the community menu.

Common problems

• "not here." The community does not exist, or it is unlisted and not open to you.
• "you were removed." The community has banned you. You cannot rejoin.
• Nothing under "more near you". There may be no public communities inside your radius, or the app does not have your location. You can change your radius under You, then Settings, then Privacy.
