Getting started

Set your interests, area and how far you will go

Short answer

Your interests decide what nCommunity suggests to you. Your area is where distances are measured from, and your radius is how far Discover will look. You set all three when you sign up, and you can change your interests and your radius at any time.

Change your interests

  1. Open the You tab and tap Settings.
  2. Tap About you.
  3. Under into, tap a picture to add or remove that interest. Each tap saves straight away.

On the same screen you can choose who sees your interests (anyone, just for matching or private), add the languages you speak, and tell us what you need to get into a venue. That last part is never shown to anybody. Sharpen For You lets you add your preferred vibe, timing, budget and room size, which only nudge your suggestions.

Change how far you will go

  1. Open the Discover tab.
  2. Tap the place under the nCommunity name at the top, for example your neighborhood and a distance.
  3. Drag the slider. The line under it shows how many events are on within that distance.
  4. Tap Done.

Events further away than your radius stay out of Discover. You can also change it from Settings, then Privacy, under how far you will go.

Your area

When you sign up you either tap Use my location or choose a neighborhood. If you use your location, we save the nearest listed neighborhood, not your exact position. Your exact location stays private and is never shown to hosts or other members.

The app does not yet let you change your neighborhood after sign-up. If you have moved or picked the wrong one, contact us about your account and tell us which neighborhood you want.

Common problems

  • Discover says there is nothing on. Widen your radius from the place at the top of Discover, or tap a different chip such as all.
  • "That didn't save. Your radius is unchanged." Check your connection and try again.
  • Use my location did not work. If location is off for the app, or you are outside New York, the app asks you to choose a neighborhood from the list instead.
