Short answer
A free event only needs you to say you are going. A paid event goes through checkout, and the checkout screen shows the admission, any service fee and the total before you pay.
How to tell which is which
On an event page, the price chip under the date says Free, or shows a price. A price that includes a fee is marked "incl. fees".
Join a free event
- Open the event and tap I'm in.
- Choose whether you are bringing anyone, then tap Confirm, count me in.
Free places can be cancelled any time. Telling the host early helps them.
Buy a place at a paid event
- Open the event. The Get tickets button shows the total you will pay, and the line under it shows how that splits into admission and service fee, plus the host's refund terms.
- Tap Get tickets, choose whether you are bringing anyone, then tap Continue to checkout.
- On Your place, check the Admission, Service fee and Total lines. Your place is held for a few minutes while you pay, and the screen shows how long is left.
- Tap Pay (the button shows the total) and enter your card in the payment sheet. Cards are handled by our payments partner, and we never see your card number.
You are not charged until you confirm. The total on the button is the amount charged; nothing is added at the card.
What happens next
After your card goes through, the app says it is confirming your place. This usually takes a few seconds. Once it is confirmed, the place appears in Your plans. See RSVP to an event and find your ticket.
Turning up without a place
On a free event, the door may let you in after it has started if there is room and you meet the age rule. You need an nCommunity account so the host can find you. Paid events do not sell places once they start, and the door cannot let you in without one.
Common problems
- The app says paying is not switched on. That version of the app cannot take payments, so the event cannot be booked there. Nothing is charged.
- Your held place ran out. Tap Start again to try for another place.
- Your card went through but the place has not appeared. Wait a few minutes and check Your plans. If it still is not there, contact us. Do not pay a second time.
- Checkout says it could not load the refund policy. Paying is paused until you can see it. Try again in a moment.
