Short answer
You can give up your place at any time from the event page. On a paid event, the app tells you what cancelling will return before you confirm, based on the refund terms the host set for that event.
Cancel a place you hold
- On the You tab, tap Your plans, then open the event.
- Tap I can't make it.
- Read the message under Give up your place?. On a paid event it says what cancelling returns, if anything.
- Tap I can't make it to confirm, or Keep it to change your mind.
Your plan then reads You cancelled this one. Your place goes to the next person on the waitlist, if there is one.
Leave a waitlist
- Open the event.
- Tap Leave the waitlist.
- Tap Leave to confirm. A waitlist place took no money, so nothing is refunded.
Paid events and refunds
Each paid event has refund terms set by the host. You see them on the event page under the Get tickets button, and again at checkout, before you pay. They say how much comes back and until when. Some hosts return nothing, and that is also shown before you pay.
When you cancel, the confirmation message states what you will get back. Any refund is sent to the card that paid, even if the ticket was passed to someone else. See Refunds and refund status.
Does cancelling count against you?
Cancelling with notice is recorded as cancelled with notice, and it counts the same as turning up. Cancelling close to the start, or after it has started, is recorded as a late cancellation. You can see your own record on the You tab under Safety Center, then Turning up. Nobody else can see it.
Common problems
- The event page does not offer I can't make it. Pull down to refresh. If the event was called off, the page says This event was cancelled. and there is nothing to cancel.
- The message says the app could not check what cancelling returns. Your refund still follows the event's refund terms. You can try again later, or contact support before you confirm.
- You expected a refund and the message says nothing comes back. The host's refund terms were shown before you paid. If you think the terms were not followed, contact support with the event name.
